About the role

We are looking for a brilliant Office Manager to join our growing Operations team and help us on our quest to make Unmade an amazing place to work! You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a wonderful office space (physically and virtually) where the team can come together to collaborate with purpose as well as have fun! You will ensure everything runs smoothly and be able to spot issues before they happen. You will be in charge of managing suppliers, planning team events, and working closely with the Operations team to define how we work in-person and online. We are looking for someone with a “no task too big or too small” mentality. There is an opportunity for the person in this role to grow with Unmade: two of our previous Office Managers are still with the company in different roles!

Background

Today 30% of all clothing products made end up in landfill. 10% of global carbon emissions are attributed to the fashion industry.

Unmade are building the digital infrastructure to enable a demand-driven apparel industry. Our patented technology allows you to design and customise clothing yourself, so brands only make what will actually sell. This reduces waste, helps the planet, and supports a more sustainable, ethical economy.

Today, Unmade works with some of the most recognisable fashion and sportswear brands, such as New Balance. See the 111 Knit shoe and read more about this "audacious project". Try Unmade's customisation tooling yourself on Ralph Lauren.

The company

Unmade was founded in 2013 by Hal, Kirsty and Ben. Read this interview with Ben.

We're well-backed by the likes of Octopus Ventures. Our clients are high-volume/big subscriptions so generate solid revenue, which has allowed us to navigate the pandemic.

Unmade won Drapers' Best Digital Innovation award, was nominated as one of Fast Company's Most Innovative, and recently joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's CE100 Programme, helping the world transition to a more circular economy.

In the next 12 months you will be:

  • Taking ownership of making the physical office a great place to work
  • Ordering supplies and equipment and being the first point of contact for visitors, contractors, and suppliers
  • Setting up for external meetings
  • Answering the phone and responding to general email enquiries
  • Collecting post and organising couriers and deliveries
  • Maintaining and organising digital files on Google Drive and our team intranet
  • Organising team lunches, trips, events, and celebrations
  • Booking travel and accommodation
  • Assisting with team-wide communications
  • Assisting with financial processes (e.g. monthly payruns)
  • Assisting with onboarding new team members

To be successful in this role, you will need to be:

  • Able to work from our office in Clerkenwell, London (near Exmouth Market)
  • Brilliant at communicating and building relationships with people
  • Meticulously organised and great at balancing priorities
  • Flexible and adaptable to a dynamic startup environment
  • Proactive, open to feedback, and solution-focussed
  • Genuinely excited about creating an awesome and inclusive environment for everyone!

Location: The responsibilities of this role require you to be mainly office-based, but you may work remotely occasionally. We get together as a full team once every three months for our quarterly kickoffs, as well as for our summer BBQ and end of year party. Smaller groups get together as and when needed.

What to expect from the application and interview process

We want to hire the best people, regardless of their background. It’s also really important to us that we hire in a way which is both effective and aligns with our values.

What the process will look like for you:

Step 1: Application review

When applying for the role, you’ll be asked three questions which will help us understand how you think about work and whether you’re a good fit for the role. Your answers will be scored blind to prevent bias. If you score well, we will email you to schedule a phone call with someone from the hiring team.

Step 2: Phone interview

This stage of the interview process is an opportunity to screen for the basic requirements of the job, find out more about your expectations, and answer any initial questions you might have about the role and Unmade.

Step 3: Interview* part 1 - Technical skills & experience

This interview will normally be with the hiring manager and another team member you would work with closely in the role. The interview will last around 50 minutes and we'll focus on the technical skills and traits needed to be successful in the job. This could take various forms, depending on the role you're interviewing for. For example, for an engineering role there may be a pair-programming session or a technical conversation; for a sales role this might include a presentation. You will always be told in advance what to expect.

Step 4: Interview* part 2 - Values & behaviours

You'll meet with two other members of the team. It will take around 50 minutes, and we'll be focussing on how you communicate and work as a part of a team, and the qualities and behaviours that show alignment with our company values:

  • We are greater than the sum of our parts
  • We make a positive difference
  • We strive for a better solution
  • We embrace change
  • We assume best intent
